CCI Moving Checklist

 Introduction

This document is for faculty and staff of the College of Arts and Sciences who receive computer support from OASIS (Office of Arts & Sciences Information Services) and will be receiving a new CCI computer. Additional information about the transition process is available at < http://oasis.unc.edu/cci/preparation >.

 Overview of the Move

The process of moving to your new computer can be broken down into four consecutive stages:

  1. Data Preparation: You are responsible for organizing your folders and files that are to be moved to your new computer. You must determine what you want to save before your data backup appointment and be able to show us exactly where these files are.

  2. Data Backup: You must schedule and be present for the data backup. After you have organized your data files schedule a backup appointment with your departments CCI contact person. The Arts and Sciences Information Services (OASIS) staff will confirm that you have prepared your data, backup your present computer, explain the CCI delivery process, and answer any questions you may have.

  3. Delivery and Setup of New CCI Computer: Your new computer will be delivered to your office and setup. Every effort will be made to configure the new computer as similarly as possible to your current computer.

  4. Technical Consultation: (optional) A member of the OASIS staff will offer to help you adjust to the new computer and will also direct you to sources of training and support. You can request a consultation through your department manager or by submitting a service request at < http://oasis.unc.edu >.

We suggest that you use this checklist as a planning tool for your move: If you have any questions or concerns regarding these procedures, please contact your departmenta??s CCI contact person or David Eckert with ITS at David_Eckert@unc.edu .

Start a new Habit: Always store your files on the College server

OASIS strongly recommends that you make a habit of keeping all files on the College server. Using the server is safe because all files kept on the server are automatically backed up nightly to protect your work. OASIS has created personal space for each member of the College to accommodate all personal files and folders. Refer to Saving to the College Server at [ http://help.unc.edu/?id= ] http://oasis.unc.edu/documentation/oasisdoc/asntserver.html to find out more information on what the College server is and how to use it.

Computer Removal: Two Weeks after restoration.

An OASIS staff member will erase all information on your old computer's hard disks. This will prevent the distribution of confidential information and remove the software that is licensed to the university. You need not be present for this process.

An ITS staff member will remove your computer from your office.

You need not be present for removal.
