Q:

How can I send a large attachment over email?

A:

You can use the UNC-CH email system to send attachments up to 50 megabytes in size. Sending large files through email without advance warning can greatly inconvenience people using dial-up accounts or those whose email provider uses small quotas. Consider one of the following alternatives for making the file accessible to others.

  • Temporarily place the file in a web-accessible location, such as your UNC-CH personal web space, and only send a link to the file in an email message.

  • If the person is at UNC, set up access to portions of your personal file space so they may access or copy the file. See [ http://help.unc.edu/?id=1416 ] How do I change permissions on my AFS space? for more information on setting up access this way.

  • Setup FTP access for non-UNC affiliates. For information on using anonymous FTP to grant access to your files, see [ http://help.unc.edu/?id=3387 ] Is anonymous FTP available?.
