Macintosh TSM 5.5 Installation Instructions

Overview
Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) is enterprise level software that provides a data backup and restoration service for departmental servers. The following instructions provide a step-by-step guide to installing TSM on a Macintosh system.
Instructions
1. A member of the Enterprise Recovery Group needs to add your system, hereafter called node, to the server using the administrator GUI, and then add the node to the appropriate schedule.
2. Access Tivoli Storage Manager help document for current IBM TSM client downloads.
3. Read the README files for system hardware and software requirements, latest news and APAR's for this client. ext for more info. The backup/archive client requires the following software to run:
4. Select the most current version and download the installer file.
5. Double click the TSM Installer icon. When installing software, Mac will prompt you to authenticate with a passphrase or administrative password. Enter the passphrase and click OK . The TSM Login will pop up. Enter password for node given to you by the Enterprise Recovery Administrator then click Login .
6. Use a web browser to access this web site: https://its2.unc.edu/esm/backup/TSM_Clients/Mac/.
7. Copy the TSM System Preference and TSM User Preference files to your Desktop from the above site.
8. The installer will allow you to navigate to where you wish to install TSM, and prompt you to enter the name of the folder to install TSM into. Select Easy Install , then Applications and it will automatically create a folder called Tivoli Storage Manager .
9. The TSM Client Configuration Assistant will prompt you when installation of software is properly installed. Follow instructions to create the Preferences files or Edit the TSM System Preference and TSM User Preference files you saved to your desktop in Step 6. Edit these files to customize your machine noting the appropriate TCPServeraddress , listing the drives in the domain field identifying the drives to backup (the drive letter identified in the domain statement must match drive already defined on your system) and addressing the include/exclude statements. When the customization is complete, save both files in the following folder: /System/Library/PreferencePanes/Tivoli Storage Manager .
10. If you choose to create the Preference files you will be prompted with the following selections in the TSM Client Configuration Assistant:
- Options include:
Create a new preference file (default) or Import one.
Select Create , then choose the Right Arrow key to proceed.
- TSM Server Name:
backup3
- TCP/IP Parameters:
Server Address: backup3a.oit.unc.edu or backup3.isis.unc.edu
Port: 1500
TSM Authentication: yourmachinename.oit or yourmachinename.isis .
Domain & Include/Exclude Lists:
Domain list, select Edit .
Domain for Backup, uncheck all local..., Select Mac HD . To select multiple domain list use the apple key . Be sure not to select AFS . Don't worry about Management Class . Select OK .
- Access Include/Exclude, then select Edit . Make the necessary changes, select the Right Arrow key, then Finish .
The TSM Login prompt appears, Select Login .
11. When doing a manual backup, be sure to select local and not Network Items or Removable .
12. To establish your node on a scheduler starting in standalone mode, go to Tivoli Storage Manager folder. To establish the scheduler so that it will automatically restart when the system is restarted drag & drop the TSM MacX Scheduler into the /System/Library/PreferencePanes/Tivoli Storage Manager . Check the TSM Scheduler Log file and make sure it says "waiting to be contacted by the server."
