Overview

Mathematica provides a fully integrated environment for technical computing. The usage of Mathematica is not only in the physical sciences, engineering and mathematics but also in the social science and commerce. It is also an important tool in computer science and software development. You can choose to either install Mathematica locally in your personal computer or invoke it from a Research Computing Server.

Installation

You can install Mathematica locally in your computer. Mathematica is available to faculty, staff and students for various operating systems through [ https://software.unc.edu ] UNC Software Acquisition Office. Please visit their webpage for more information.

The license of Mathematica is renewed annually. The terms of our license allow Mathematica to be installed and run on University-owned machines or on personal computers. For Windows-based PCs and Macs, licensing requires that you enter a license password each year. For Unix servers and workstations on campus, licensing is made easier by use of the license servers of UNC: license0.isis.unc.edu, license1.isis.unc.edu, and license2.isis.unc.edu .

The license ID number is provided with the Mathematica software.

Setting up the environment and invoking from a Research Computing Server
