You can set up your PC laptop to print to the SILS printer in the lab. There are two steps to doing this. First, add a local printer on your computer (see instructions this page). Then set up the [ http://sils.unc.edu/itrc/its/faq.php?id=4707 ] Pharos Client.
If you want to print in the lab from your laptop, you must first download the driver for the SILS printer. Go to http://ils.unc.edu/downloads/ and download the file named lj4200pswin2kxp-en.exe. Double-click on it and select . Unzip it to C:\temp\lj4200. (To unzip the file, you will need WinZip, which you can download at http://www.winzip.com if it's not already on your computer.)
Now you will add a local printer. Go to Start, Printers and Faxes and click on . The Add Printer Wizard window will open. Select . You will be setting up a local printer, so choose on the next window and uncheck the option to Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer.
Choose the option to create a new local port.
Enter an easy-to-remember name for your port. We suggest sils_printing. Select .
The port will be added. On the next window, select .
The Install From Disk window will pop up. Select and navigate to the driver you downloaded earlier to C:\temp\lj4200 .
Inside the folder, select the hpc4200d.inf file , and select .
The driver information will appear in the Install From Disk window next to . Select .
This will bring you back to the Add Printer Wizard. Select the driver for HP LaserJet 4200 PS and select .
Choose an easy-to-remember name for your printer. We suggest SILS_Printer . Enter this name into the Printer name field. You will probably want to select to not use this printer as your default, unless you will only be printing in the SILS lab. Select .
Choose Do not share this printer and select .
Choose No when prompted whether you want to print a test page (a test page will not work before you have configured the Pharos client to work with this printer) and select .
Select to complete the Add Printer Wizard.
Now that your driver is installed, you need to install the PHAROS client to access the printer.
