Issue : Original CCI Software Image Problem
Description : There are known issues with the initial build of the software load images for the effected models. Symptoms of these issues vary widely, most often they have been observed when installing peripheral devices or adding extended language capabilities in regional settings. The system fails to locate files needed for device/service installs. Reloading the fixed image is necessary to solve this problem.
To determine if one of the models listed has the image with these issues, see step one of the resolution below.
Resolution :
-
Check to see if you already have the newest image.
-
Open the file C:\SYSLEVEL.IBM in Notepad.
-
Login to your CCI computer using the Administrator account (the password is blank unless you've changed it).
-
Open My Computer from your Desktop.
-
Open the C:\ drive.
-
Right-click on the SYSLEVEL.IBM file and choose Open .
-
Select the radio button next to "Select the program from a list."
-
Choose Notepad from the Open With dialogue box.
-
-
Compare the image name listed in this file to the appropriate image name listed in the table below.
-
If the image name on your computer matches the image name listed above then you do not need to reimage your computer. If the two image names do not match then proceed with step 2.
-
-
BACKUP YOUR DATA!!!!! The reimage process erases all data on your computer and you are responsible for backing this data up BEFORE you begin the following reimaging process.
-
Obtain the appropriate Recovery CD Set for your model CCI computer from Software Acquisitions. Their office is located across from the ITRC in the House Undergraduate Library. Place your order for recovery CD copies with Software Acquisition's [ https://software.unc.edu/recoverycd.php ] Recovery CD Order Form.
-
Delete your partition table . You will need to boot to a floppy disk or CD with a utility such as fdisk to do this. You can obtain a copy of such a CD from Software Acquisitions when you get your Recovery CDs.
-
Restart your computer with Recovery CD 1 in the CD/DVD drive .
-
Choose the appropriate answer during the recovery process and change CDs as prompted.
-
Restart your computer and let the final recovery process complete.
-
Restart your computer again, when prompted.
-
Your computer is now reimaged.
