These instructions will help you change the password that you use to log into the ILS network, which you do when you log in to a SILS lab machine or when you connect to your Duck folder via FTP or any other way. For security reasons you need to change your password from your initially assigned temporary password. If you do not know your default password, ask a SILS lab assistant.
To change this password:
-
Log on to the Windows machine with your username and password. Once you have logged in, press Ctrl - Alt - Delete to get the log-on dialog box with a button.
-
Select the button. A dialog box will appear with three empty lines.
-
Enter your old password on the first empty line, enter your new password on the next line, and confirm your new password by entering it again on the last line.
-
Select . You have succeeded in changing your password. Select to return to Windows.
Once you've changed your password, you will need to use the new password when you connect to Duck in any way, including logging in to the SILS lab computers, [ http://sils.unc.edu/itrc/its/faq.php?id=4627 ] connecting to Duck via FTP, and [ http://sils.unc.edu/itrc/its/faq.php?id=4701 ] mapping to Duck on your laptop.
If you get your password wrong three times in a row when you are logging into a lab computer, you will be locked out of your account. If that happens, see a SILS lab assistant to have your password reset. Please note that not all lab assistants have the privileges to reset passwords, so it may not be possible to do this immediately.
