Note:
If you are using another Operating System other than Mac OS X, then visit the document [ http://help.unc.edu/?id=4924 ] Connecting to the UNC Network - Getting Started to select your Operating System or device. This document was written for version 10.4 of the Mac OS X operating system. Earlier 10.x versions may look slightly different than the screenshots below. If so, please view the Help in your system for more details or instructions. Also, if you purchased your card separately, then it must first be installed. Please install the card(s) according to the manufacturer's instructions, and return to this document.
Getting connected to the UNC-Chapel Hill network involves two steps: registering your network card(s) and configuring your computer for the network. Registering your card(s) on the UNC-Chapel Hill Network helps us ensure network security and keeps anyone not affiliated with the University from using our network.

Click on the Apple menu in the top left corner of your screen and select System Preferences . (You can also click the System Preferences icon in the Dock).

Under the Internet and Network preferences group, click the Network icon.

Click on the drop-down menu next to Show: and choose AirPort .

Your AirPort ID will be displayed directly above your preferred networks. Be sure to write this down EXACTLY as it appears on your screen.

Repeat steps 1 and 2 above if System Preferences is not open.

Click on the drop-down menu next to Show: and choose Built-in Ethernet .

Click on the Ethernet tab.

Your Ethernet ID will be displayed below the connection tabs. Be sure to write this down EXACTLY as it appears on your screen.
Once you have obtained your AirPort and Ethernet IDs you will to need to register them:

Visit the Onyen services page at [ https://onyen.unc.edu/cgi-bin/unc_id/services ] onyen.unc.edu.

Choose the DHCP Registration link.

You will need your Onyen, Onyen password and hardware address(es), to register your computer.
