How do I give someone who doesn't have an Onyen access to a Blackboard site?
If this individual has a PID number, but not an Onyen, ask him or her to create an Onyen account. Once the individual has created the account, you will be able to enroll him or her in the course If the individual does not have a PID, follow the instructions below.
1. Go to the Control Panel. Under User Management, click Create User to open the Create User window.
2. Enter user information in the text boxes provided. Any box marked with an asterisk is a required field. Enter a username that is nine characters or greater. For usernames, the combination firstnamelastname is standard. Of course, some people, e.g., janedoe1, might need extra characters.
3. In the Password field, enter a password. Passwords can be of any length. For the participant's protection, use a combination that other participants would have difficulty figuring out.
4. Keep a record of the username and password you add. If a participant forgets his or her username or password, you will need to give the participant this information again. Neither you nor the participant can change usernames and passwords once they are created.
5. Be sure to specify the user's role using the radio buttons in section 4, Role and Availability. By default, the user's role will be Student.
6. To add the user to the course, click Submit. The user is now a part of the blackboard.unc.edu user database and a member of your course. Click OK to return to the Create User page.
