I'm having trouble logging into Blackboard. What might be the problem?

If the solutions suggested below do not solve the problem, submit an Online Help Request for further assistance.
  • If you are not sure what type of account you use to log into Blackboard please not that:
    • An Onyen account:
      • is always less than 9 characters long and doesn’t look like email address
      • always has a corresponding PID
      • is created at the Onyen Services web page.
    • A Non-Onyen account:
    • A Guest ID account:
      • may have any number of characters and always looks like an email address
      • it has a corresponding PID
      • is created at the Access Carolina portal.
      • If you receive the message “LDAP user is not associated with a user record in the Blackboard system” your account has been disabled at the system level in preparation for an Inactive Accounts Clean-up. Please submit an Online Help Request for assistance.
  • If you received the message "Could not login. Valid authentication credentials were not provided," you've either entered your password incorrectly or your Onyen password has expired. Try re-entering your password again, making sure that Caps Lock is not on, and then try checking the status of your Onyen password.
  • If you received the message beginning "An error occurred while the system was processing this login request," you've either entered your username incorrectly or, if you've only recently gotten an Onyen, your account may not have been added to the system yet. Allow enough time for your Oneyen to enter the UNC Blackboard system and then try re-entering your username and password again, making sure that Caps Lock is not on.
  • If you received the message "No authentication credentials were provided with the request," check your web browser's security settings. If you're using Internet Explorer, Active Scripting must be enabled. If you're using Mozilla, Javascript must be enabled.
Using a non-Onyen account (i.e., your username is longer than 8 characters)?
If you don't have an Onyen account and have been assigned a username and password by the instructor or instructional support staff working with the course, try re-entering the information again, making sure that Caps Lock is not on. If you still receive an error message, contact the instructor or instructional support staff who assigned you the user account: IT Response Center staff are not able to reset Blackboard-specific passwords.
