I am the instructor of record for a course but I cannot see the corresponding Blackboard site.

Sites for courses listed with the university registrar are created automatically well before the semester begins. A very small number of courses might be added to the university registrar's list shortly before or during the beginning of the semester. If your course is one of those, find out through the university registrar when the course was listed with them. This information will enter the Blackboard system during the next scheduled Blackboard/SIS data integration sync following the moment the site was listed with the university registrar. For information regarding Blackboard enrollments updates, please see the Blackboard Enrollments and Site Creation Calendar.

Unlike the course rolls available on Faculty/Staff Central, which are updated in real time, new information entered in the SIS system with the university registrar does not deploy to the Blackboard system in real time, instructors will have to allow the necessary time for this information to propagate to the Blackboard system before they can see the changes reflected in Blackboard. For information regarding Blackboard enrollments updates, please see the Blackboard Enrollments and Site Creation Calendar

If the site already exists and the data integration time lag has already elapsed, but you still don't have access to the Blackboard site for your course, contact the university registrar to find out if you are listed with them as instructor of record for this course.

1. If the university registrar confirms that you are not listed with them as instructor of record for that course, contact the course scheduling officer of your school. This is the person who gives the main university registrar the information about the courses your school is offering, as well as the information about the instructors assigned to those courses. This person should be able to help you by making sure that the necessary information is communicated to the main university registrar, so they can list you as the instructor of record for the course. Once an instructor is listed with the university registrar as instructor of record, he or she will get enrolled in the Blackboard system automatically the next time the SIS data integration sync takes place, see warning above.

2. If the university registrar confirms that you are listed with them as instructor of record and enough time has passed for the necessary data integration sync to take place since you where listed with the university registrar, then one of the following two scenarios might be the reason why you are not able to see your course:

  • You are logging into Blackboard.unc.edu with a user ID that it is more than 8 characters long. This means that you are not using your Onyen to log into Blackboard. Because all instructors listed as instructors of record with the university registrar are automatically enrolled into courses with their Onyen as user ID, if you log into Blackboard with a user ID other than your Onyen, you will not be able to see your course. Please find out what your Onyen is and log into Blackboard with your Onyen and password. If you don't have an Onyen you will need to Creat an Onyen.
  • Your course is cross-listed with another course. In this case, because both courses are listed with the university registrar, two blackboard sites have been created but only one of them will be used, while the other site will be made disabled. It could be that you may be looking for the site that has been made disabled without you being aware of it. The course scheduling officer for your school will be able to let you know which one of the sites was scheduled to be disabled.
If you are listed with the university registrar as instructor of record and your situation does not fit any of those described above, it could be that your enrollment might have become disabled. An enrollment becomes disabled when the university registrar drops your enrollment as instructor of record in a course. Only after your enrollment is restored with the university registrar and after the SIS data integration sync takes place will your enrollment in Blackboard be restored.
