Q:

What is the Livetech Desktop Streaming service?

A:

The Livetech service is a remote desktop management tool which allows staff members at the ITS Response Center to connect to your computer remotely and see your desktop just as if they were sitting with you at your workstation. They can also use this tool to communicate with you by using chat or even control your computer's mouse and keyboard.

To initiate a desktop streaming session, staff at the ITS Response Center will ask you to go to the following address:

http://remote.unc.edu

Once the livetech web site comes up, you will be asked to click the drop-down box in the middle of the page and select your representative (for example, "ITRC-1"). Then click the Click Here button.

After you connect with your representative, you will need to grant permission to connect to your computer remotely. You will be prompted to download and install various plugins depending on the browser and version you are using. After these plugins have been installed, ITS Response Center Staff members will have the ability to view and interact with your computer over the network.
