Installing the ArcGIS 9.x License Manager


Overview

At the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, if you want to install ArcGIS on a laptop or a computer not connected to the UNC network, you will need to install the ArcGIS License Manager. This program is included in the ArcGIS Desktop installation CD.

To complete the installation, you will need a [ http://software.unc.edu/hardwarekey.html ] hardware key and an ESRI license file.

Instructions

To install the ArcGIS License Manager, follow these steps:

  1. If you are in the process of installing ArcGIS 9.x Desktop, click the Install ArcGIS License Manager link. If you already have ArcGIS installed, locate and insert the ArcGIS CD and click the Install ArcGIS License Manager from the startup screen.

  2. The ArcGIS 9.x License Manager Setup window will appear. Select I received the license file by email and have saved it to disk .

  3. Click Browse and navigate to the .txt or .efl9 file you received from the ITS Software Acquisition Office. Select this file, and then click Open .

  4. Click Next twice, and then click Install .

  5. When the License Manager installation process is complete, you will need to restart your computer. First, be sure to save any open documents and close all applications. Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now , and then click Finish .

  6. Plug the hardware key into your computer's USB port.
