 About the OID

The Oracle Internet Directory is an integral part of the Campus Directory, as it takes input from various sources through LDAP and supports such functions as authentication, Calendar, Portal, and collaboration. In addition, the Oracle directory is accessed by other campus systems, such as Blackboard.

The OID is one of the LDAP replicas of the UNC enterprise directory. Updates made to people data in the UNC enterprise directory are forwarded to the OID in real-time. It provides authentication services (via a Kerberos plug-in) and directory information about people for Oracle applications and application servers.

Applications using the OID/SSO for authentication include the Oracle desktop and web-based calendar clients, Oracle portal ([ http://my.unc.edu ] MyUNC), CBT services and some web applications running on the ITS S4 cluster. It also stores user configuration data data for the ITS Oracle calendar.

 How to get started

Most campus users interact with the OID indirectly, simply by making updates to the [ http://dir.unc.edu/dir/home/uncdir.jsp ] Campus Directory or setting preferences in [ http://calendar.unc.edu/ ] Oracle Calendar or [ http://my.unc.edu ] MyUNC.

Campus application developers who want to make use of the OID service in their work should submit a [ https://www.unc.edu/ar-bin/websub/index.pl ] Remedy request.
