Finan$eer is a web-enabled application that provides an interface to information in the Financial Record System ([ http://help.unc.edu/?id=3114 ] FRS). This document provides setup instructions for the most recent version of the application, Finan$eer 4.0.
For more information about Finan$eer please see the document [ http://help.unc.edu/?id=3094 ] What Is Finan$eer? .
To begin using Finan$eer, visit [ http://fin.unc.edu/ ] fin.unc.edu . Click the Run Finan$eer link near the bottom of the screen. The Finan$eer Web Start application should open in a new window. If Finan$eer doesn't run when you click the link, you will need to update your Java environment.
To use Finan$eer you need to get the latest version of Java software for your desktop computer. You will need to update your Java environment to Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 1.5.0_07 or later. Java Web Start, which deploys stand-alone applications, such as Finan$eer, over the network, is included in the Java Runtime Environment.
For updating Java easily, we recommend you use Microsoft Internet Explorer as your browser.
Note
You will be able to use any browser or use a desktop shortcut later though to run Finan$eer.
Click on the Run Finan$eer link on the Finan$eer website. Java Web Start should detect if an update is needed and guide you though the process. You may need to accept a license agreement and security certificates. The download may take several minutes, and installation may take several more. Once the Java environment has been updated, the newest version of Finan$eer will be downloaded. Again, this may take several minutes the first time it is downloaded.
If Finan$eer doesn't run when you click the link, follow the Manual Update instructions below to download the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE).
To manually update your Java environment, go to Sun's website, [ http://www.java.com/ ] www.java.com , and follow the instructions on the site. Most likely this will involve clicking a "Download Now" button to begin. If you have difficulty with this process, please contact your computer support specialist for assistance, or contact the ITS Response Center at 962-HELP.
