Q:

Is it legal to download copyrighted files (MP3s, movies, games, software, etc.) from the Internet?

A:

Generally, the answer is no. While UNC-CH cannot and does not actively monitor what files users download, we do routinely receive copyright complaints about users serving copyrighted files from their computers. Programs that allow you to download files may also turn your computer into a sharing server. If we receive a copyright complaint about your system, we will remove your system from the network.
