Introduction: What is Elluminate?

Elluminate Live! is a web conferencing system that allows groups to meet, present, and collaborate.

Elluminate Live! is a web conferencing system that allows groups to meet, present, and collaborate. Blackboard users with Instructor or TA role in Blackboard sites can set up Elluminate sessions within their Blackboard sites. If you don’t have any Blackboard course sites, please submit an Online Help Request for an Elluminate meeting creation .

Participants in an Elluminate session can

    • have discussions using voice or text chat
    • write, draw, and paste images on a shared whiteboard
    • present materials imported from PowerPoint
    • conduct polls and give quizzes
    • simultaneously view web pages, video, and other multimedia
    • use breakout rooms to work in smaller groups
    • view or share documents or software running on any participant's computer
    • record sessions for later viewing or review

The only equipment required to participate in an Elluminate session is a computer with a connection to the Internet. For audio discussions, those speaking will need a microphone, preferably a USB headset with noise cancellation.

Instructors can set up Elluminate sessions for

    • hosting guest speakers
    • holding virtual office hours
    • leading test review sessions
    • teaching class sessions online

Instructors can also create Elluminate sessions for students to

    • work in study groups
    • complete peer review activities
    • collaborate on group projects

How to create an Elluminate session from within Blackboard (for Moderators)

Blackboard users with Instructor or TA role in Blackboard sites can set up Elluminate sessions within their Blackboard sites. For instructions please see Scheduling an Elluminate Live! Session in Blackboard (PDF).

Instructors and TAs will have the role of Moderator in their Elluminate sessions. Users with a student role in Blackboard will have the participant role in the Elluminate sessions. Moderators can promote participants to the moderator role if desired.

Users with Student role in Blackboard will have the Participant role in the Elluminate sessions created by the course instructor. Instructors can promote participants to the moderator role if desired.

To join an Ellumination session in your Blackboard course you will need to click on a link (similar to the on in the image below) located in the area of the course chosen by your instructor.

If you don’t have any Blackboard course sites, please submit an Online Help Request for a Sakai project site creation. Please mention in the ticket that you are requesting the site to run Elluminate sessions.

How to organize your Elluminate session in advance with Elluminate Plan!

Elluminate Plan! is an add-on to Elluminate Live! that enables moderators to organize, script, and package content and activities BEFORE a real-time session. Then during the Elluminate Live! session, trigger each action, like starting the recording, advancing to the next slide, creating breakout rooms, loading and presenting a quiz, or playing a multimedia file, with a single click.
