How to Clear Web Browser’s Cache and Cookies

The purpose of this document is to walk through the steps for deleting the cache and and cookies of various browsers. The browsers supported in this document include: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari and Google Chrome. To get started, please select your preferred browser for your operating system.

Windows

Internet Explorer

  1. Click Tools from the menu options in the upper right of the Internet Explorer browser and select Internet Options

  2. In the Browsing history section, click the Delete button

  3. Place a check mark in the boxes next to Temporary Internet Files and Cookies.

  4. Click the Delete button
  5. Click OK

Firefox

  1. Click Menu button from the menu options in the upper right of the Firefox browser and select History.

  2. Select Clear Recent History.

  3. In the Time range to clear drop down, select Everything.
  4. Place a check in the boxes next to Cookies, Cache, and Active Logins in the Details section of the window (Click Details drop-down arrow to expand, if necessary).

  5. Click the Clear Now button

Google Chrome

  1. Click the Menu button on the upper right side of the browser window.
  2. Point and click on History.

  3. Click on Clear Browsing Data…

  4. Select beginning of time to delete everything or, choose another time frame if you want.
  5. Select the check boxes for the types of information that you want to remove (i.e. “Cookies and other site and plugin data” and “Cached images and files”) then click the Clear Browsing Data… button when ready to clear the browser.3-ClearCache-Win-GC-Checks

Macintosh

Safari

  1. Click Safari from the menu options in the upper left and click Clear History and Website Data…

  2. By the drop down Clear, choose which range to clear. Click Clear History.

Firefox

  1. Click Menu button from the menu options in the upper right of the Firefox browser and select History.
