Installing Remedy Desktop Client on Windows

  • Please keep in mind that BMC is not officially supporting Windows 8 and 10, so there may be undiscovered issues.
  • The Remedy Desktop Client is no longer officially supported and will stop functioning under the next version of Remedy. If possible, please use the web client (https://remedy.unc.edu) instead.
Download

To Install Remedy on:

Windows 8

  1. Download the most recent Remedy client using download button above.
  2. Open the location of the file you just downloaded
  3. Right click ‘ARSuiteKitClientWindows’ and select ‘Extract All…’
  4. Ensure ‘Show extracted files when complete’ is checked and click ‘Extract’
  5. After extracting, a new windows folder should open
  6. Open the ‘Disk1’ folder
  7. Open the ‘InstData’ folder
  8. Open the ‘VM’ folder
  9. Right click ‘setup.exe’ and choose ‘Properties’
  10. Click the ‘Compatibility’ tab
  11. Underneath ‘Compatibility Mode’ check ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for:’ – This will enable a drop down menu, make sure ‘Windows 7 is selected.
  12. Underneath ‘Privilege level,’ check the box that states “Run this program as an administrator”
  13. Select Apply, then OK.
  14. Right click ‘setup.exe’ and choose ‘Open’

Note: User Account Control (UAC) will often give a warning verifying you want the program to make changes to your computer. You must click ‘Yes’ to proceed.

 

You will probably get a firewall warning, click ‘Allow Access’ if you do:

Click Next.

Select “I agree to the terms of the license agreement.” Click Next.

Click Next.

Accept the defaults as shown. Click Next.

Ignore this message and click Next.

Accept Home Directory. Click Next.

Accept English and click Next.

Click Install. The installation will take a few minutes.

Click Done.

Click “This program installed correctly”.

If you have never installed Remedy on this particular machine, you will need to add the server. Please follow the instructions below if you get this error.

First add your onyen to the User Name field so that the Accounts button becomes available.

Click the Accounts button.

Click the Add button.

Type in remedy.unc.edu into the space under Server and click OK.

Note: If you are off-campus, you will need to use port 49100 in the TCP port (see https://help.unc.edu/help/accessing-remedy-from-off-campus/)

You should then be able to log in with valid onyen credentials.

Windows 10
