The LDAP Directory service manages a database of contact information about members of the UNC-Chapel Hill community. This database is accessed by many other systems across campus, including the Campus Directory ( directory.unc.edu). In addition, the LDAP Directory can be used in conjunction with your email client addressbook, allowing you to look up email addresses for faculty, staff and students as you need them.
In most cases, the LDAP Directory service works in the background, helping users indirectly through other applications. However, if you would like to make use of the Address Server as an addressbook, you will need to change the configuration of your email client.
