Overview

Research Computing’s non-sensitive data ftp site allows for basic user authentication. There is no encryption. Passwords and data uploads are sent as clear text.

If you need to share sensitive data, inquire about the sonas secure ftp site instead. The service discussed in this help document pertains to non-sensitive data transfer needs only.

A University partner can be granted a local account for non-sensitive ftp data transfer. This feature is ideal for University collaborators who have neither a UNC PID nor an Onyen, but still require data sharing capabilities of non-sensitive and non-proprietary data.

Onyen-based users will continue to use the sonas secure ftp site mentioned above (Note. the site requires encryption of logins to protect passwords). Only non-onyen users will make use of the non-sensitive ftp site.
