The University is transitioning from the Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP). The Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection (SCEP) is the current recommended Antivirus/Malware application for university-owned computers. This application allows for Managed and Non-Managed client. For an overview of the client please visit Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection Overview document. The University recommends Microsoft Security Essentials for personal computers Windows Operating System and Clam X Antivirus for Mac Operating system.
University-owned (AD Domain) and Sensitive Data
The local IT department will setup per group policy to install the Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection (SCEP) managed client for Windows only. If this computer or device accesses Sensitive Data, then this computer or device should be joined to AD in order to meet UNC Security Policies. If you have any questions or do not see SCEP installed then please contact your local IT group, Submit a Help Request, or call 919-962-Help.
University-owned (Non Domain)
The University recommends using the Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection (SCEP) Non-managed client for Windows or Mac. You may obtain a copy from the Shareware.unc.edu site. For instructions on installing the client please visit Installing Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection document. The University recommends using the Microsoft Security Essentials for personal computers, please visit Shareware.unc.edu to download the client.
