[Exchange] Android Configuration

Purpose

The University Campus Exchange account can be configured on some Android Devices. We have been able to setup a Exchange account on Android version 2.2.x plus. In order to setup your account, please follow the instructions below.

Configuration Settings
  • User Name:  Onyen
  • Password:  Onyen Password
  • Server:  outlook.unc.edu
  • Domain:  AD

Exchange (ActiveSync) Email Setup on Android

Setup on Android 2.x.x

The University is providing instructions based on stock Android version 2.3 and using Exchange ActiveSync Connection.
Note: Some Android OS or devices’ version may vary as to how the Campus Exchange Accounts are added. If the instructions below are different than what you see on your Mobile Device then please check with your Mobile Devices Vendor for support on how to setup an Exchange (ActiveSync) account. The basic settings above will still apply.

Step 1:

  • Select the email icon on your phone.
    • If you don’t have an email account setup you will be prompted to add one automatically.
    • If you already have an email account setup, while in the email app select, Menu which brings up email settings and select add account.
  • Enter your onyen@email.unc.edu email address and your Onyen password then select Next.

Step 2:

  • Select Exchange as the Account type

Step 3:

  • For domain\username enter your: ad\Onyen
    **Some devices may require the domain to be listed as ad.unc.edu
  • Enter your Onyen password in the provided field.
  • Enter outlook.unc.edu in the server field.
  • Select Use secure connection (SSL) as security type.

Step 4:

  • Set how frequently you want your email to update from the email by selecting the frequency from the drop down menu.
  • You are also given the option to set Campus Exchange Account as your default Email Account.

Step 5:

  • Input a name in the Give this account a name(optional) field for your email account.
  • Add your name to the Your Name field.
  • Select Done (your email will start to synchronize).

Setup on Android 4.x.x

This document is written to take a person through the UNC-Secure Configuration or Enrollment process on Android 4.x.x device.  The instructions are written based on Android 4.2.x and using a Samsung Galaxy S4 phone.  Some devices may look a little different but should follow the same process.  If following these instructions and you run into trouble please call us at 919-962-4357 or come visit us at one of our Walk-in locations (click here for hours). 

Step 1:

  • Select the email icon on your phone.
    • If you don’t have an email account setup you will be prompted to add one automatically.
    • If you already have an email account setup, while in the email app select, Menu which brings up email settings and select add account.

  • Enter your onyen@email.unc.edu email address and your Onyen password then select Next.

  • Select Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync as the Account type

Manual Settings
 

  • For domain\username enter your: ad\Onyen
    **Some devices may require the domain to be listed as ad.unc.edu
  • Enter your Onyen password in the provided field.
  • Enter outlook.unc.edu in the server field.
  • Select Use secure connection (SSL) as security type.
  • After automatic setup you will be prompted about Remote security administration.
    This allows the exchange server to be able to connect to your device remotely (i.e. If you loose your device you may wipe the email account using outlook.unc.edu).
  • Click OK.

Step 4:

  • Set how frequently you want your email to update from the email by selecting the frequency from the drop down menu.
  • You are also given the option to set Campus Exchange Account as your default Email Account.
    Please note if you leave the default option to Sync SMS you will receive emails for every text message received. To remove this option you can un-check the box by Sync SMS.

  • On the Activate device administrator? screen.
  • Click Activate.

  • Input a name in the Give this account a name(optional) field for your email account.
    • You can add a name to the field (i.e. UNC Exchange).
  • Select Done (your email will start to synchronize).
