ITS supports Java 1.4 development and implementation using the Tomcat Servlet/JSP container. Tomcat is the servlet container used in the official Reference Implementation for the Java Servlet and JavaServer Pages technologies. It is offered as a standalone servlet container or with the Apache Cocoon XML publishing framework. The Tomcat web server is great for serving Java Server Pages and servlets, but is not as fast as Apache for delivering static content, so for sites requiring a mix of dynamic and static content, Tomcat is configured as an application server only, and Apache is used as the web server.
Versions supported for development at this time:
- Java 1.4.0
- Tomcat 4.0.3
- Cocoon 2.0.3
ITS does support older versions of the above, but development is allowed only with the versions listed above.
